Learning Through Soft Play at Pegasus School

Pegasus School have had their soft play area replaced with new equipment and some great new additional functional features. The school onsite Occupational Therapist Wilbur Serra worked with the soft play supplier to enhance the experience for the young people by adding a hiding tunnel, higher elevation, an Alexa and sensory lights.

The soft play area offers huge functional benefits to the young people at the school:

  • It features a selection of high-quality soft blocks, landing mats, hiding tunnel, soft climbing steps, peanut ball and more.
  • It provides various types of sensory input including tactile, visual, proprioceptive and vestibular which in turn helps students achieve a sense of calmness.
  • It helps students develop and improve their gross motor skills and muscle coordination, as well as increasing muscle tone and providing calming alert stimulation.
  • It helps young people to develop self-play, develops their problem-solving skills while navigating obstacles, increases self- confidence, generates positive interaction and the overall development of sensory self-regulation.
  • The added feature of higher platform elevation stimulates vestibular sense which help them understand their body movement and their position in space.

SENAD Get Ramtastic with The Derby Ram Trail

We are proud sponsors of Derby Museums, Derby Ram Trail which is a spectacular free art sculpture trail coming to Derby in the summer of 2021. From 27 May to 22 August a flock of fabulously colourful and unique rams will take you on a trail around the beautiful city of Derby.

The Derby Ram Trail is being brought to the city by Derby Museums, together with Wild in Art who are a leading producer of creative events that transform places into free, family friendly outdoor art galleries.

As part of the activities around the trail, all SENAD service users have been offered the opportunity to take part in a ‘Design a Mini Ram’ competition. 160 people are taking part from across the groups services, bringing the fun of the trail across the country.

Autumn Activities at Pegasus School

Students at Pegasus School have made the most of the autumn sunshine, clearing the garden ready for winter and visiting some local walks. When the weather wasn’t so nice they stayed warm in the therapy rooms and Olivia’s class made hedgehog bread which was really tasty.

Celebrating National Teaching Assistant Day

Our Teaching Assistants do a fabulous job of supporting young people and helping them to enjoy learning and promoting their self esteem. Working together with Teachers and Therapists they come up with brilliant new ideas, activities and bring their enthusiasm into the classroom. Here are the photos of our class TA’s at Bladon House School. Their contribution to the achievement and development of young people is invaluable. Thank you!

Staff Keep Learning Fun for Pegasus Students

Over the past few months the staff team at Pegasus School have been producing so many fun activities every day for the students. After half term they have had a fun, recovery type curriculum approach to help the students get back into school and adapt to the changes of different peers/rooms.
From home learning boxes, to socially distanced allotment digs, making food frogs and keeping active with Joe Wicks.

“The team have demonstrated fantastic team work, organisation, dedication and creativity which we will continue to build on and the students have been absolutely brilliant at adapting to the changes.” Claire Hancox -Deputy Head Teacher
