Maple View School

Day and 38 to 52 week residential Age: Mixed 6-16

Maple View School is an inspirational specialist school for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties, aged 6 to 16 years.

Welcome from the head

I am delighted to welcome you to Maple View School. We are a small, independent specialist school for children aged 6 to 16 with autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and speech, language, and communication needs.

What makes us truly unique is our size and our therapeutic approach: every pupil is known, understood, and supported as an individual, and our close-knit community allows us to tailor learning and care in a highly personalised way.

Our approach is rooted in the social model of disability. We believe that challenges do not lie within the child, but within the barriers around them, and together we work to remove those barriers, unlocking every pupil’s potential to thrive.

Our setting in Mackworth gives us the best of both worlds: the opportunities of Derby City, with its rich cultural and educational resources, alongside the calm and beauty of nearby rural green spaces. This balance allows our pupils to experience both the vibrancy of the city and the therapeutic benefits of the countryside, supporting their learning, wellbeing, and independence.

Alongside our school, we are proud to have a registered children’s home onsite, offering residential placements from 38-week to 52-week provision. This enables us to provide stability, consistency, and a true sense of belonging for those who need it most.

Our highly skilled multi-disciplinary therapy team, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Clinical psychology and Music Therapy, works hand-in-hand with our teaching staff. Together, we provide holistic support that meets each child’s academic, social, emotional, and communication needs in an integrated way. We are more than just a school; we are a community where children are given the tools to succeed, both now and in the future. I warmly invite you to visit us, meet our team, and see first-hand the difference our unique setting can make.
