Young people at Bladon House School have been enjoying a PJ and Movie Night and a Bank Holiday trip to the seaside. Both activities were requested by the young people at their House Meetings.
House Meetings are held regularly and offer all the young people living in the house the opportunity to have a voice. Young people are supported to have their thoughts and opinions heard by their Key Worker. All sorts of topics can be discussed including activities and trips they would like to do or things they would like to change in the home.
These meetings also used to remind young people of important messages such as which staff are in the safeguarding team or what to do if they are worried.
Members of Ecclesbourne Allotment Committee and students from the University of Derby have been busy fundraising for money to put towards their Garden Grooves Summer Festival, which is taking place in July this year.
A cake sale, organised by Derby University students, Claude and Jack, was held at the University’s Kedleston Road campus in April. The sale raised £118. Students and residents were supported by Pegasus Schools Catering Manager, Darren and their Support Workers.
A fundraising football tournament was organised by a Pegasus School student committee member who worked with University of Derby Student, Gareth. The Pegasus School team competed against three teams of university sports students. Pegasus won one game 5-0, before narrowly losing the semi-final 3-2. A Pegasus student won the Golden Boot Award for the most goals scored, as well as player of the tournament.
On Wednesday 11th March Students at Alderwasley Hall School held a Russian day. Professionals from a number of local organisations attended and provided their input to our day. We had two teachers from the Rubric Russian school in Derby come and deliver language sessions and a teacher from Green tops circus school deliver sessions instructing our students in circus skills.
Both these sessions and the sessions delivered by Alderwasley staff provided a good grounding in some of the key aspects of the language and culture of Russia. We were also fortunate to have representatives (staff and students) from Derby Moor School, our link school in Derby; who came and delivered their own presentation towards the end of the day.
Modern Foreign Language days are an opportunity to experience and learn about other cultures. Language is only one aspect of a culture, and the sessions run during the days look at popular National dishes and cuisine, Music, National sports, contributions to global developments in Science and Technology, as well as the Art, History and Geography that make these cultures unique and interesting. We live in a country that has been affected and influenced throughout our history by other nations; by learning more about them we learn more about our own nation and where the UK fits into the world.
Modern Foreign Language days continue to be well received and commented upon positively by students and staff when surveyed and we constantly strive to improve and refine the experiences and the learning that our students gain by attending days such as this.

Students and residents hold the roles of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, while others have preferred to be committee members. The first job for the committee will be to work on plans to hold a mini music festival at the allotments for fellow students and residents in the summer.
