Maple View Welcome Two New Furry Friends

We welcomed two lovely new faces to Maple View this week: the guinea pigs Cookie and Crumble. Learning how to handle and feed them is going to be a new experience for all of our children, and for some of the staff team too!

Meet Teddy, Our School Dog!

Teddy is our school dog.
Dogs can provide comfort and support and help reduce stress. They can also improve social, cognitive and emotional functioning; all of which will be of benefit to our children. Teddy will be in school for the children, for a variety of reasons:
🍁To visit as a treat
🍁To play with
🍁To take for walks – to encourage physical activity and coordination.
🍁To cuddle if upset
🍁To support children to overcome their fear of dogs
🍁To read with
🍁Staff members can also request time with her!

We’re All Ready to Go at Maple View School

The Maple View School staff team have been very busy with induction and training and getting the school and home ready for the children once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. They have been learning about our new recording systems including Evidence for Learning, which will enable parents to log-in and see evidence of their children’s day and the progress they are making. Teachers are planning and making resources, with a music, art and story-based focus. Plans for the outdoor areas are also well underway. Teddy, the school dog has been familiarising herself with the team and her surroundings.

Carly, the schools Head of Care has recruited a staff team who start their induction this month.
We have children due to start with us and we hope to begin the transition process as soon after the Easter Break as possible. In the meantime we continue to receive referrals ready for assessment.

Sneak Preview of the SENAD Group Ram

The Derby Ram Trail

The SENAD Group’s sponsored Ram was brought to life this weekend by our artists from Reilly Creative. We can’t show you him yet as we’ve been asked to keep him under wraps for now, but here’s a sneak preview. As part of the trail activities students and service users across the groups schools and services will have the opportunity to create their own mini rams, as well as enjoying taking part in ram trail itself.

The Derby Ram Trail is a spectacular free discovery trail coming to Derby in the summer.
From 19 June to 28 August 2020 a flock of fabulously colourful and unique rams will take you on a trail around the beautiful city of Derby. The ram sculpture is based on the mythical Derby Ram from the 18th Century song, which according to legend was ten yards high with enormous horns and a huge flowing fleece. The story tells how people from all over came to see the huge Derby Ram, and we are excited that people will once again flock to Derby.
The Derby Ram Trail is brought to you by Derby Museums, together with Wild in Art and Presenting Partner, Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID).
