Rowden Festival Goers Scoop Bromyard Scarecrow Trophy

It’s official……………………………………….

– WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS –

Huge congratulations to Rowden House School on winning this year’s Scarecrow Competition.

Well done to Alina for all her hard work in ensuring everyone looked like they were off to enjoy the Glastonbury Festival!

Thank you to the Rowden entourage who enjoyed a great evening parading through Bromyard town – you all so deserve this win.🤩

Well done everyone.

Horticulture Curriculum Benefits Students

Over the past couple of years, interest in our horticulture curriculum has grown immensely. We have a core group of students who’ve produced plants for sale across the school. This has been exceptionally beneficial for the mental well-being of some of our students. Just a few of the benefits we’ve seen are:

– being in the outdoors;

– increased mindfulness (living in the moment);

– increased physical activity;

– improved levels of concentration/attention;

– increased self-esteem (through seeing tangible results of your work);

– increased social opportunities.

We’re also trying to set up a similar project on our Lower Site too with some KS4 gardeners!👩‍🌾🍅🌶🫑

A Right Royal Celebration in Herefordshire

Jubilee Celebration day at Rowden House School took place on Friday 27th of May.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this year’s day such a wonderful success. It was lovely to welcome all guests for the day to our campus; it was lovely to see so many familiar faces during the afternoon, it’s been far too long. We would like to thank the newly appointed Mayor of Bromyard for officially opening our afternoon & also for judging our ‘All Things Royal’ art competition. Some fabulous pieces of artwork were created by the students, residents & staff.

The winners of this competition were:

• Adult Home – Park House

• Young Person Home – The Grove

• Rowden Student – LBS

We had local store holders on campus selling lovely handmade art and food. Local musician Ray Mytton join us for the afternoon, taking requests. We drummed up some love with Drum Love, we enjoyed the Archery with Richard from Really Rural, the coconut shy was a real ‘hit’ with everyone, we enjoyed a game of croquet on the main lawns and the traditional British ‘wellie wanging’ went down a storm!

Lunch was served alfresco, looking out across our beautiful lawns, with views of the Malvern Hills in the distance, the ever-popular local Ice Cream man made a very welcome return later in the afternoon, much to everyone’s delight. Tea, coffee & squash were served all afternoon, along with some sweet treats for everyone to enjoy. The fabulous Jubilee cake was made by Emmas Farmhouse Cafe which lasted all of 5 minutes!! To close the day we had a traditional Punch & Judy show from Juggle Puppet along with circus skills. So many local businesses have been very generous with gifting donations towards our Grand Raffle; we will be very busy writing thank you cards next week!

Happy 2nd Birthday Maple View!

Happy 2nd Birthday Maple View! On Friday 27th May we had great fun celebrating our All About Me day! We had activities, music, a parade, party food, a linked book, and best of all an inflatable slide! It is All About Me at Maple View and celebrating each individual person!

Alderwasley Hall Students Go To New Heights

KS3 enjoyed a 3-day and 2-night stay at Gradbach Scout Camp. Taking part in activities including rock climbing, abseiling, and raft building organised by Acclimbatize, finished off with a BBQ and campfire.

Our Primary students also joined in for a one-night stay and enjoyed walking in ‘The Roaches’ to see Lud’s Church, a deep, moss-covered chasm. In the evening, they enjoyed a BBQ and roasting marshmallows by the campfire.

Supporting Children with their Communication Skills

Developing communication skills is a key focus at Maple View. Our children use a range of communication devices, systems, strategies and tools to support or replace natural speech. These are known as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). An important part of this development is practice in the community. Huge thanks to our local Co-Op for regularly supporting our children with this.

Bears Steal the Day at Maple View World Book Day

What a wonderful World Book Day we have had! Everyone got into the spirit of it, even our dogs! All our children got a couple of free books and some vouchers. We had a special assembly to talk about our books using our children’s individual preferred communication and then activities all afternoon. There also seems to be a bear theme, can you spot the bears?

Red Nose Day at Maple View School

RED NOSE DAY! Our Student Council decided how to raise money today- non-uniform, making funny biscuits and the traditional ‘Nose and Spoon’ race! Children also had some fun activites to do. As well as all this, we managed to fit in lots of school work and a kindness award assembly!
