Communication has remained a key focus at Rowden House this term, with staff continuing to build on the school’s commitment to placing communication skills at the heart of all learning plans. Each young person follows an individual learning plan that outlines how communication and other essential skills will be introduced, practised and reviewed over time. These plans are shaped not only by teaching teams but also through close collaboration with the school’s multidisciplinary professionals, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Clinical Psychology. This joined‑up approach helps ensure pupils experience consistent communication support across school life.

Staff have continued to use a variety of environments to encourage communication – both indoors and outdoors. The curriculum is intentionally designed so learning extends beyond the classroom, allowing pupils to explore their surroundings, share moments with staff and engage in activities that spark their interest and curiosity. Many pupils particularly enjoy spending time outside, where the school’s woodland and outdoor spaces provide calm, engaging settings that naturally support interaction and shared experiences.
By continually celebrating communication in all its forms, Rowden House works to ensure every pupil has the chance to develop vital skills that support their independence and future learning.
