This term, we’ve been looking closely at how well our curriculum is supporting each pupil’s progress, independence and wellbeing. Personalised learning has always been a core part of what we do at Rowden, and we continue to track and celebrate each student’s individual journey.
A big focus has been on strengthening the foundations that help pupils engage meaningfully in their learning. Before introducing more formal tasks, staff spend time understanding what helps each young person feel settled, motivated and ready to take part. This has involved exploring pupils’ personal interests in greater depth, making adjustments to their environments, and introducing new sensory and communication supports where needed. We use strategies and resources to support both expressive and receptive communication, ensuring each pupil has the tools they need to share their thoughts, make independent choices, and form positive relationships.

Learning continues to take place in a wide range of settings across the school. While classrooms remain important, pupils have also been developing life skills in home‑style spaces, practising independence and travel skills in the community, and taking part in outdoor learning activities. These varied environments give pupils the chance to apply their learning in real‑life situations and build the resilience needed for everyday life.
We look forward to sharing further updates as we continue to strengthen our curriculum and celebrate the achievements of our pupils. To learn more about Rowden House school, visit: https://senadgroup.com/rowden-house/.
