This term, pupils at Rowden House School have been developing their teamwork and communication skills through the creation of a Community Café in partnership with the Rowden Adult Homes.
As part of a group learning programme, pupils spent the half term planning and preparing for the café. From deciding on a suitable location to choosing which items to sell, pupils were encouraged to make decisions at every stage. This process provided opportunities to practise problem‑solving, collaboration and functional life skills within a supportive environment.
The café brought together pupils, staff and members of the wider Rowden community, offering an inclusive space for everyone to enjoy. During the event, pupils took on a range of roles as they interacted with visitors, supported one another, and contributed to the smooth running of the café.
Experiences such as this reflect Rowden House School’s commitment to personalised learning that prepares pupils for everyday life. By engaging in real‑world activities, pupils are able to apply their skills in different contexts.
The success of the Community Café was clear to all who attended, with pupils showing great pride in their work and the progress they have made. It was a fantastic example of what can be achieved through careful planning and collaboration.
