Easter Treats Donated by Fellow Key Workers

Pegasus School would just like to say THANK YOU to the Manager and staff at Morrisons in Burton for donating enough Easter eggs for all the young people and staff at the school.

Kelly Watson, Head of Care at the school said ” This act of kindness and generosity is amazing. Just like the staff at Morrisons, all of the staff working here are ‘key workers’ and are doing a fantastic job keeping our young people happy, content and safe during these extremely difficult times. These eggs will certainly cheer everyone up.  It means a lot to us.”

Sneak Preview of the SENAD Group Ram

The Derby Ram Trail

The SENAD Group’s sponsored Ram was brought to life this weekend by our artists from Reilly Creative. We can’t show you him yet as we’ve been asked to keep him under wraps for now, but here’s a sneak preview. As part of the trail activities students and service users across the groups schools and services will have the opportunity to create their own mini rams, as well as enjoying taking part in ram trail itself.

The Derby Ram Trail is a spectacular free discovery trail coming to Derby in the summer.
From 19 June to 28 August 2020 a flock of fabulously colourful and unique rams will take you on a trail around the beautiful city of Derby. The ram sculpture is based on the mythical Derby Ram from the 18th Century song, which according to legend was ten yards high with enormous horns and a huge flowing fleece. The story tells how people from all over came to see the huge Derby Ram, and we are excited that people will once again flock to Derby.
The Derby Ram Trail is brought to you by Derby Museums, together with Wild in Art and Presenting Partner, Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID).

Occupational Therapy Day at Pegasus School

Occupational Therapy Day

The importance of Occupational Therapy (OT) was highlighted at  Pegasus schools OT open day. Staff, students and parents were invited to the day. The day was organised by the schools OT, Wilbur.

During the day Wilbur demonstrated a sensory diet. An effective sensory diet is made up of activities that improve focus, and help the young person feel OK (regulated) through the day. It helps the nervous system to feel better organised.  This enables them to tolerate situations and sensations that they would otherwise not be able to cope with.

Pegasus Students Remember the Fallen

Remembrance day

During Remembrance week, Pegasus students engaged in activities to begin to learn about Remembrance Day; why, what and how we remember. In preparation the students learned that the poppy is a symbol of Remembrance and began to understand the reasons why the poppy is used in this way.  One Student made a wreath using cardboard, string, paint and used fabric to make the poppies. One Student used cardboard to make the wreath shape. He used white, green and red fabric to cover the circular shape. One Student collected spruce from the woods to make her wreath. Using a wreath ring she wound the spruce through the frame and attached material poppies to it. Students made poppies for and students to wear as a symbol of remembrance to wear during Remembrance Week. At 11am on Monday 11th November students held a minutes silence to remember those who have given their lives in conflicts. A wreath was laid on the turning circle, as students watched, in an act of remembrance.

Students visited The National Memorial Arboretum. Students placed either a Remembrance Cross or Wreath at a Memorial of their choice as a mark of respect and remembrance.

Enjoying Fitness at the Gym

Post 16 students at Pegasus School have a sports and recreation module incorporated in their programme of work, to ensure they develop their health and fitness.
We continually look for opportunities within the community that our student population can take part in, alongside other young people and members of the general public.

Two students have been attending The Greenbank Leisure Centre in Swadlincote weekly since the start of the Academic Year with their Support Staff.  at first they went the swimming at the Centre, but staff noticed that they appeared to be taking an interest in The Fitness Gym, which was visible through a glass screen in the Reception area of the Leisure Centre.

An induction session was booked for the students and a member of the Leisure Centre Fitness Gym Staff introduced them to the equipment in the gym which he thought would be of benefit to them in developing a level of fitness. Alongside our staff members they were shown safe usage of the equipment and a basic programme was put together for them to follow.
This opportunity has enabled us to link this experience to meet the objectives and outcomes from the ASDAN Personal Progress Unit accreditation scheme.

Celebrating NAPPI Success

Isabel Campbell of SENAD Community was awarded a tankard by NAPPI UK at the NAPPI Training meeting earlier this month for being one of the two longest serving NAPPI Trainers. Isabel and Wayne Price at Park House were part of the first Group of SENAD trainers trained by NAPPI UK, five years ago. Wayne received his tankard a few months ago. Both trainers remain actively involved as NAPPI Trainers and continue to promote the Psychological approach of NAPPI. They have witnessed the excellent achievements of staff through the use of the NAPPI philosophy.

The Group Health and Safety Manager, Martin Bradder said “I often sit in NAPPI Trainer Training sessions for an hour or so. It is great to see how the Trainers develop over the years. We have examples of NAPPI Trainers going on to be Registered Managers and it is my firm belief that NAPPI Trainers develop confidence through the excellent training provided by the NAPPI UK Trainers. I am immensely proud of Wayne, Isabel and the other NAPPI Trainers and I look forward to seeing what these guys will achieve over the next five years.”
