The SENAD Group’s sponsored Ram was brought to life this weekend by our artists from Reilly Creative. We can’t show you him yet as we’ve been asked to keep him under wraps for now, but here’s a sneak preview. As part of the trail activities students and service users across the groups schools and services will have the opportunity to create their own mini rams, as well as enjoying taking part in ram trail itself.
The Derby Ram Trail is a spectacular free discovery trail coming to Derby in the summer.
From 19 June to 28 August 2020 a flock of fabulously colourful and unique rams will take you on a trail around the beautiful city of Derby. The ram sculpture is based on the mythical Derby Ram from the 18th Century song, which according to legend was ten yards high with enormous horns and a huge flowing fleece. The story tells how people from all over came to see the huge Derby Ram, and we are excited that people will once again flock to Derby.
The Derby Ram Trail is brought to you by Derby Museums, together with Wild in Art and Presenting Partner, Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID).
Staff, residents and parents/carers have enjoyed a November and December full of fabulous Christmas activities.
At the end of November they were invited to support St Peter’s tree appeal at the local church by decorating their own tree as part of a display of over 60 trees. Our tree was named ‘Santa Clause’ the Festival took part over the first weekend in December and at the end we took our tree back to decorate reception so everyone had the opportunity to enjoy it. Special thanks go to David Symons, Art Facilitator and the residents of Winslow Court and Cedar Lodge for their time and effort in creating some truly beautiful tree decorations.
In December the third West Midlands Learning Campus Christmas Fayre took place. The Mayor and Mayoress of Bromyard joined Parents, Residents, locals and Santa for a fabulous morning. Thank you to the learning support staff who helped young people to make the items for sale. Thank you to Donna and Chloe in the kitchen for producing fabulous turkey cobs and to Dave and Amber for serving during the morning. Special thanks for Neil and Connor for their help with Santa!
The festivities continued with a Christmas meal for residents of adult homes and their families. Thank you to everyone who helped transform the rugby club. Thank you to Kamilla, Trudi, Leah, Julia and Martin for serving the meal. A truly lovely evening.
Parents of a resident sent an email to Martin Carter, Head of Rowden House and the Herefordshire Adult Homes, with the following message….” We wanted to email you to thank all the staff for a marvellous Christmas dinner at Bromyard Rugby Club. The atmosphere was really Christmassy! It was a great venue for it and nice to see all the houses together. We had a wonderful time, we were some of the last to leave! Debbie, Julia and Trudi worked very hard to make the evening memorable. Again, many thanks to you all for a wonderful time. I hope you will keep using this venue. Happy Christmas!”

While the youngsters of Rowden House School had enjoyed a very successful Prom evening, the residents of Winslow Court & Cedar Lodge were eagerly anticipating the weekend’s festival.
Now in its 21st year, Nozstock is one of the UK’s longest running festivals. Family-run, very much home-made and proudly independent on a beautiful working farm set upon rolling hills, the Nosworthy family continue to curate one of the UK’s finest emporiums of music, arts, food and drink, with a huge focus on keeping all kids and families entertained in the Little Wonderland Kids Area.
Highlights included a DJ set from Rudimental, Soul II Soul and The Sleaford Mods, while the energetic and uplifting Oh My God! It’s The Church returned to the main Orchard stage for their Sunday service !!
We collected their festival bands from the entry tent and followed the yellow brick road to the wonderful Rainbow, which then took us all in to the enchanted world of OZ (This year’s festival had a Wizard of Oz theme, complete with tin men, cowardly lions, witches, munchkin men & and an emerald city.
The Orchard (main) stage was the main focal point, where we enjoyed listening to the bands play Sunday morning and watching the performers weave & dance their way through the morning crowds.
We had a really good time and we would like to thank the Nozstock team, especially Cara, who made this visit possible.
Huge congratulations go to our Chief Executive Officer, Brian Jones who was been awarded an Honorary Master Degree from Derby University, to recognise him for his work to promote and ensure the equality of education for young people.
Brian has been Chief Executive Officer for the SENAD Group since 2006. Using his significant experience in specialist education with local authorities, the voluntary sector and independent sector, he has successfully led the group in designing and operating high quality education, therapy and care services for young people and adults with autism, speech language and communication needs and mental health needs.
Brian is relentless in his dedication, determination and ambition to ensure that the most vulnerable people in our society and their families are treated with the respect, dignity and have equal opportunities to maximise their potential. He is highly respected figure within the sector and works closely with the Department for Education, educational institutions, including the University of Derby to develop policy and practice that will increase equality for all people with additional needs.
Isabel Campbell of SENAD Community was awarded a tankard by NAPPI UK at the NAPPI Training meeting earlier this month for being one of the two longest serving NAPPI Trainers. Isabel and Wayne Price at Park House were part of the first Group of SENAD trainers trained by NAPPI UK, five years ago. Wayne received his tankard a few months ago. Both trainers remain actively involved as NAPPI Trainers and continue to promote the Psychological approach of NAPPI. They have witnessed the excellent achievements of staff through the use of the NAPPI philosophy.
The Group Health and Safety Manager, Martin Bradder said “I often sit in NAPPI Trainer Training sessions for an hour or so. It is great to see how the Trainers develop over the years. We have examples of NAPPI Trainers going on to be Registered Managers and it is my firm belief that NAPPI Trainers develop confidence through the excellent training provided by the NAPPI UK Trainers. I am immensely proud of Wayne, Isabel and the other NAPPI Trainers and I look forward to seeing what these guys will achieve over the next five years.”
Bromyard Scarecrow Festival took place on Friday 9th June. Everyone from the West Midlands Learning Campus played a part in making this year’s entry and we were not disappointed. The Scarecrow theme this year was ‘Weather’ and our entry was Yellow Submarine/Rain by the Beatles.
Well done to all the residents at Winslow Court for your fantastic creation.
We congregated at St Peters Churchyard just before 7.30pm to witness an extraordinary array of scarecrows who were taking part in the grand parade through the town.
We were joined by Peder Nielsen, Bromyard Town Crier and current Champion Crier of Europe and the fantastic Tenbury Town Band and our new Mayor and escort. They lead the procession as it made its way along Church Street through Market Square, along Broad Street and High Street and into Cruxwell Street ending up on the Town Green for a BBQ and entertainment.
The young men of Winslow Court were supported by staff to help parade our entry through the town, they enjoyed waving to all the people who came out to line the streets and encourage everyone along the way.
Whilst we were congregating in the churchyard and parading through the town the judges were looking to award prize money totalling almost £100 to the best entourage accompanying their scarecrow entry, a little later in the evening the winners would be announced and presented with their prizes.
Once we had paraded through the town, we ended up on the town green for judging and although we did not win this year, everyone had a great evening and we all decided we cannot wait to do it all again next year!
The Sporting Communities Team have been busy raising awareness of their work in the local community. They provided games and sports activities at the annual Chaddesden Park, Big 1 event, which took place at the beginning of June.
The Sporting Communities’ information bus enabled them to showcase their work with local families, finding out what activities they would be interested in Sporting Communities delivering in the local area.
The SENAD Group have recently sponsored Sporting Communities, providing funding to run their project for 20 weeks. The project is being championed by Chaddesden Ward Councillor, Jonathan Smale.
