Curriculum

The Bladon Way curriculum is individualised to meet the spectrum of needs of young people, enabling them to experience success be successful and maximise their potential. It is designed to engage, aspire and thrive within the Bladon Community.

Young People follow one of our two curriculum pathways; Open Skies for young people with moderate learning difficulties or Bright Horizons, for young people with severe learning difficulties. All young people will follow an individualised timetable, created to meet their own specific needs and by their Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP).

Six specialist subjects supplement the Bladon Way curriculum. These subjects are: Computing Food Technology Hair and Beauty Physical Education, Land Based Studies including animal care, recycling, the environment, horticulture woodworking Forest School including shelter building, fire skills and fire safety, tool work, and conservation Adventurous Activities including archery orienteering, rock climbing, canoeing, and bushcraft ( young people following the Open Skies Pathway also take part in The John Muir Award and Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes) These specialist subjects: Enrich the curriculum while integrating literacy, numeracy, and other core subject learning Provide opportunities to develop social skills, interaction, and communication, and address individualised EHCP targets Introduce young people to subjects that can be studied in further education.

Occupational Therapy at Bladon House School is a service provided by a professionally qualified and registered Occupational Therapist.

Speech and Language Therapists work across the school and support the student’s programmes within the community and residential environments.

The school’s Physiotherapist and Sensory Integration Lead supports student’s sensory-motor needs. Many young people have sensory processing difficulties. Sensory integration provides individualised sensory diets and exercise programmes to support the young persons sensory regulation and physical health.

We have a Healthcare Assistant that supports the homes to manage medication and mental health issues. We have excellent links with the local GP practice, dentist and opticians in the local town. In addition, we have input from a variety of professions including psychiatry and psychotherapy.
