Registered Area Manager, Anna Goscombe, staff and service users of SENAD Community Derby are celebrating their phenomenal success following their recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The SENAD Community team support people across the East Midlands with a range of support needs including learning disabilities, Autism, brain injuries and mental health needs to live in the community as independently as possible.
CQC rated the service ‘Outstanding’ in four of the five inspection areas; effective, caring, responsive and well led.
The inspector praised the service for being ‘exceptional’ in placing service users at the heart of the service. Their top priority is people’s safety, wellbeing and happiness.
The service demonstrates this in a number of ways; Involving people and their families in the recruitment of support staff and the care planning process, a dedicated staff team who are given time to get to know the individual and build the trust that ensures positive long lasting relationships, treating people as individuals and supporting and empowering them to have maximum choice and control and to achieve their goals and independence. They are also exceptional at helping people express their views, including using innovative methods to help people communicate, including the use of technology.
A relative interviewed by the inspector commented “We had a sense of relief knowing that SENAD was the right agency. They treated him as a person, valued and respected. These values resonate in both the Registered Manager and staff”.
Helping service users, that had previously socially isolated become part of their community, has made a huge impact on peoples’ lives. For example the team are supporting a person to watch sport at their local club. This has made the person feel like a part of their community, improved their memory, reduced their anxiety and increased their overall wellbeing.
Anna commented “This is a truly exceptional result for an outstanding team. I am so proud of the feedback we have received and of our fabulous team who work incredibly hard to deliver amazing care to the people we support.”
