Aims, Outcomes & Values

The school’s key aims are for our children to:

  • Be happy, safe and active members of the school and wider community
  • Develop their social, communication and academic skills to their full potential
  • Self-manage their behaviour
  • Develop self-care and independent living skills in order to live a rich and fulfilling life

At Maple View School we believe that a key part of our personal growth and development is about how we connect with the world around us and how we connect with others.  Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) is at the heart of the curriculum, and intertwined into daily activities, with a focus on social development. Equipping children with the skills and resilience required to participate within a range of communities safely and effectively. We belong to the ‘Kindness School ‘programme and daily acts of kindness are encouraged and celebrated. Children also access horticulture and small animal care, Forest School and community-based activities ensuring that children have a rich culture capital offer.

At Maple View School we want to develop a love of learning. Children follow an individualised curriculum pathway focussing on EHCP Outcomes. Making learning both functional and fun is important, whilst ensuring that children are exposed to daily literacy, numeracy and PSHE activities. Individual and group therapy sessions take place within the classroom, within therapy rooms, outdoors or in the community throughout the school day, with communication and sensory regulation at the heart of the programmes.

School Values

At our school, everything we do is built upon three core values: Kindness, Bravery, and Independence.

  • Kindness shapes the way we treat one another, creating a caring and respectful community where everyone feels valued and supported.
  • Bravery inspires us to face challenges with courage. As a special school, we understand that what may seem like a small step to some can be a huge achievement for our pupils — and we celebrate every success.
  • Independence empowers our pupils to think for themselves, make choices, and develop the skills they need to thrive in learning and in life.

These values are at the heart of our teaching, learning, and relationships. They guide us every day, helping our pupils grow not only as learners, but as thoughtful, resilient, and confident individuals.

The school recognises the potential every pupil has to succeed. Pupils are confident and enthusiastic. They learn exceptionally well.
