The Team
Meet the team at Edgewood School…

Jon Byrne
Head Teacher
It is with great pride that I step into the role of Headteacher at Edgewood School. I bring with me a wealth of leadership experience across a range of SEND education settings. I am passionate about inclusive practice and ensuring every student receives the best educational experience.
I aim to foster a culture of collaboration and respect among staff, the children and their families. I believe that building strong relationships are at the heart of enabling children to feel safe and flourish.
I started my career in 2010 as a 1:1 in a local SEND School, since then have held many roles within education working my way up to Headteacher, something I am very proud of achieving. Throughout my career, I have led on several key areas of school improvement, including behaviour, curriculum and safeguarding. I am a trained Designated Safeguarding Lead and have worked closely with external agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every young person in my care.
While I have taught across the curriculum, my subject specialism was Physical Education. I also had the honour of leading the Duke of Edinburgh programme for SEND learners a role that culminated in being invited to Buckingham Palace in recognition of its success. I believe in leading by example and continually developing my own practice. As part of this, I completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL), where my leadership project focused on enhancing behaviour management strategies across the school.
Beyond my school-based work, I serve as a Trustee at a local post-16 SEND provision, where I act as a critical friend challenging and supporting leaders to drive progress and improve student outcomes. I also enjoy a variety of sports although these days it is more as a supporter/ spectator of my own children.
I am excited about the future of Edgewood School. Leading this community is both a privilege and a responsibility I hold with the utmost care. I look forward to working in partnership with students, staff, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive environment. My aim is to create a school where every child feels safe and valued, progresses against their individual targets to reach their full potential and has fun!
